Neighborhood

Stunning panoramic mountain and valley views on edge of state forest, twelve minutes into the local township of Heyfield (with supermarket, pub, cafes, parks etc).

Guest Access

Gumnut Cottage Gippsland is set on 2.5 acres and surrounded by a growing food forest of annuals, perennials, and over fifty fruit trees, with mountain, valley, and bush views. The property forms part of a small rural acreage community, with neighbouring homes located on adjoining 2.5-acre blocks and visible from parts of the property. As this is a working acreage, guests may occasionally notice light property maintenance such as mowing or tending to gardens and animals. Friendly resident animals, including Babydoll Sheep, Australian Miniature / Pygmy Goats, and Heritage Hens, live on the property. Our residence is located at the rear of the block, while the cottage itself is fully self-contained. Guests have a dedicated carport and simple, contactless self check-in via lockbox. The indoor fireplace (May–September) and outdoor fire pit (June–August, weather permitting) are available by request for a $25 fee per bag of firewood.

I took my partner on a over night stay for valentines day and wow was it an amazing place! Mel put in so much effort to attend all of our needs by setting up the perfect valentines. She went above and beyond my expectations and allowing us to hang with the animals and even taking us to her other property to see the alpacas. Was a great experience highly recommend.

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend at this place! The surroundings are beautiful, the hosts are incredibly kind and welcoming, and the cottage is amazing — cozy, comfortable, and perfectly equipped. If we ever get the chance, we will definitely come back. These are moments you truly never forget. Highly recommended!

My partner and I stayed in Mel’s cabin for our six year anniversary weekend, it was extremely peaceful, cozy & inviting. There was a few boardgames, varieties of coffee & tea, herbs/spices & many other condiments in the kitchen, everything we needed to cook a delicious steak/chips dinner. Mel was super inviting, we got to feed and take photos with their miniature sheep and goats who’re very cute. I even got talking to her husband about 4wds for a good while which was grouse. There’s plenty of information inside about the surrounding area and attractions, endless 4wding about 10 minutes up the road, not too far from 90 mile beach either. Overall I couldn’t recommend Mel’s place enough if you’re chasing a quiet weekend or even one night away with your partner!

Me and my partner had a fantastic stay at Mel’s place. The cottage was very easy to find and very well organised. Wish I could have stayed longer. The cottage was beautifully set up and if you stay you have to use the pancake machine, was an amazing touch and I even went and bought one for myself after 😂 Mel was responsive, friendly and extremely helpful, everything was fabulously clean and tidy - truly 10/10!

Thank you Mel for providing such a beautiful place for my husband and I to recharge after a busy Christmas and new year. Your place is absolutely beautiful - the peace and serenity is amazing and just what we wanted. Your helpful information of the surrounds was perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the region. Your communication was excellent and the place was exactly how the images portrayed them…..gorgeous!! We will be telling everyone about Gumnut Cottage and hopefully we get the opportunity to return sooner rather than later. Thank you for being a beautiful host. Scott & Dimity
